in exactly one week...

i will be on an airplane headed to los angeles!

i'm tagging along with my good friend (and college roomie) greta.  she will be there for work, and i will be there to mooch off her sweet hotel room and explore santa monica!  since greta will be working most of the time, this will be the perfect opportunity to work on one of my new years resolutions:  do more things by myself!  i always like to have company, especially when exploring an unfamiliar city, but i think this will be a great learning experience for me.

so of course the first thing on my mind is food.  where should i eat?  kate of for me, for you recently moved to the area, so i've been paying extra close attention to her recommendations lately.

i definitely plan on checking out cora's coffee shoppe for breakfast one morning

ocean avenue seafood and/or the lobster (oh man, check out the pics on their site!) for good food and great views

border grill and/or monte alban for mexican (super stoked about this)

and the penthouse restaurant at the huntley hotel for drinks at sunset

in addition to all the eating and drinking, i also plan on checking out the santa monica pier, muscle beach, international chess park, and doing a little shopping at the 3rd st promenade.  hopefully i can find some time to sit poolside or on the beach and relax with a book, too.  it's a lot to squeeze into 2.5 days, but i want to make the most of it!

have you ever been to santa monica?  any recommendations?

p.s. wish me luck on the plane rides - i am terrified of flying and have already had a few plane crash nightmares in anticipation of this trip!

  2. santa monica is a great city! if the weather is good i highly recommend renting a bike or some rollerblades and head down the boardwalk to venice beach (way cooler than santa monica in my opinion). enjoy!

I have been to Penthouse a few times. The view is incredible, plus its pretty swanky.
